On March 28 and 29, 2022, the Kick-Off Meeting for the Priority Program "New Materials for Laser-based Additive Manufacturing" took place in the buildings of EVONIK AG in Essen. Over a period of one and a half days, more than 50 scientists from all over Germany were given the opportunity to present their institutes and their projects, to exchange ideas and to discuss common research questions. As Mercator Fellows, Prof. Ruth Cardinaels (Department of Chemical Engineering, KU Leuven, Belgium and Department of Mechanical Engineering; Eindhoven University of Technology, Netherlands) and Prof. Mark Easton (School of Engineering, RMIT University, Australia) introduced themselves and presented their possibilities for an intensive and long-term exchange with all scientists present. As new members of the priority program we are looking forward to support the team with the two projects Carbide additivation of PBF-LB tool steels with functional polymer binders and Creation of high-nitrogen steel with Si3N4 powder additivation and to do research together with all participants.

Following the kick-off meeting, all PhD students were given the opportunity to participate in a summer school in Recklinghausen until 03/31/22. Our two research assistants Marie Luise Köhler and Felix Radtke gladly accepted this offer. Topics of the Summer School included elevator pitches, networking, careers in academia and industry, and two guest lectures on "Pore Analyzer" and "Simulations on PBF-LB/P" by guest speakers Dr. Nils Ellendt and Prof. Ruth Cardinaels. In addition, a poster session on the respective projects has been held, where our research assistant Marie Luise Köhler has won the second place, we congratulate warmly and wish much success in the further work on the project.
