New employees at IWM

We welcome: Markus Mirz und Oliver Schenk

IWM welcomes two new employees.

Oliver Schenk strengthens the process simulation group. At the end of March 2020, he successfully completed his master's degree in mechanical engineering at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal. At the same time he worked as a dual student during his studies at GKN Sinter Metals Components GmbH. Oliver will do research in the field of modelling and simulation of the process chain of the PM gear. He will initially start working with us in usecase of DFG Cluster of Excellence "Internet of Production". In addition, he will further develop the simulation method of pressing and sintering for the sintered steel.

Markus Mirz also supports the process technology group. After studying mechanical engineering, specializing in production technology/surface engineering, he initially worked for Toyota for 1.5 years as a materials engineer. Now he is the thematic successor to Sebastian Riehm and will also take over responsibility for HIP equipment. He will lead an AiF project with the IFAM Bremen and Dresden, which aims to realize wear-resistant composite components by combining various additive manufacturing processes (electron beam melting, binder jetting and direct energy deposition) and HIP. By means of sintering simulation complex composite components are to be manufactured close to the final contour. In addition, he will research the closure/pressing of pores in hot isostatic post-compression of LPBF-manufactured samples in a DFG individual project and his dissertation.

We are looking forward to the cooperation and wish them all the best!
