The IWM of the RWTH Aachen was again part of the Formnext this year. The world's leading trade fair for additive manufacturing and industrial 3D printing took place at Messe Frankfurt from 19 to 22 November 2019. Together with the Aachen Center for Additive Manufacturing, ACAM, the IWM formed an informative stand.
Interested students of the institute were able to register to take the ACAM shuttle bus to the fair. The more than 850 exhibitors amazed more than 34,500 specialists and executives in the 5th year of the event.
In order to illustrate theoretical contents, IWM employees brought exhibits with them. One of them is the "extruder screw". This was produced from a combination of additive production and hot isostatic pressing.
Also, the sinter simulation was discussed and talked about. The presentation of this process should emphasize how the distortion during sintering can be predicted in the binder jetting process and, as a result, the geometry of the green mold can be optimized.
The fair in Frankfurt inspired to develop many new project ideas.
